Media women in Cameroon have been called upon to conceive strategies on how to encourage and influence women into decision-making positions in the country.

The call was made by Mr. Mbimbe Patrice, Social and Cultural Adviser to the North West Governor, during a two-day seminar on the role of the woman in decision-making, which took place recently at the Bamenda Cameroon Baptist Convention Centre.
Organised by the National Association of Professional Media Women (NAPMEW), with the support of the 80-year old German Non-Governmental Organisation Frederick Ebert Foundation, the seminar brought together more than 40 journalists and communications experts from all over the national territory, to learn new ways of encouraging women into decision-making levels in their communities.
Opening the workshop, NAPMEW President Mrs Susan Mbamu, recalled that since the Beijing platform, the story has been gender-equality with little or no action to find the place of the woman in practical decision-making and that it was time to have women in such positions.
For this to be realised, he continued, media professionals were the right group of people to do the job with the educative nature of their profession.
On his part, the Resident Representative of the Frederick Ebert Foundation in Cameroon, Dr. Platter, said that in the nature of Cameroon democracy there is the need to have more of the youth and women in decision-making positions, both in private and public institutions, as they are the people with the zeal and ambition to effect development.
It should be recalled that the Frederick Ebert Foundation has been promoting political initiatives in Cameroon and has been working with NAPMEW for the past 10 years.
