L'Effort Camerounais (English Version): Marcus Mokake: Young Lion with a mighty roar

The National Elite Soccer Championship has been a gateway for potential professional footballers. One of such is Marcus Mokake, three times best player of the year in the soccer championship. After winning several titles in Cameron including gold medals with the Intermediate Lions, the 25 year old set for greener pasture in a professional league with Sedan in France. For three years the name Marcus Makake is not often heard as it was during his championshipdays. L’Effort caught up with him at his residence. Excerpts:

After a wonderful time in Cameroon, Macus Mokake seems to have disappeared from the scene, what has been happening to you since you left for Sedan?
Marcus Mokake has been in Sedan-France for three years now. I have been doing my best to see my team go through to the first division but unfortunately we failed to qualify for the first two years, but thank God we made it this year.

Now that your club, Sedan, has been promoted to the Championat de France, what are your ambitions?
Well it is going to be my first appearance in this league and I am going to do my best to prove to my fans especially my fellow Cameroonians that I can always do better and make them proud. Also as a player, I expect to win more titles with the club.

People are saying that ever since names like Atem Valentine, Albert Meyong Ze, Jean Calvin Batang and Marcus Mokake left the Elite Championship, it has become less interesting. What do you say?
No. I don't think so, if you want to watch good football you must satisfy the players, prepare them to be fit. The level may have dropped but people should look at the management. I think poor management is the problem not the absence of big names.
The Indomitable Lions have been having problems recently, and it'll only take a well-placed word for your career to be shattered…. It is football, some times you lose, you can't win all the time. Let's just say it was a bad period for the Lions. I think it is very important for the management to sit and solve some of the few problems in the team and every thing will be fine. As for me, I am always ready to serve my country, any time I am called up it will be my pleasure.

Now that you are a successful professional have you been supporting other youngsters who want to emulate you?
I love football; I like to see young people play, so I never hesitate to give them my support. I set up a small academy sometime ago. Most of them are now playing with second division sides in the South West Province. But they still remain players of the academy because it is registered. I allow them to play because it will help them to gain more skills and experience.

What has been the most difficult moment in your career?
Way back in the National Championship, when I had an injury, which lasted about five months I think, but by the grace of God I came back without losing my skills.
