According to a press release published by Prime Minister Inoni Ephriam, a government information mission on the stakes and perspectives after the arrival of HIPC completion point are visiting all provincial head quarters of Cameroon.
This field trip which started on August 3 is a follow up of the government's campaign to explain to the populations of the respective provinces, the fall outs of debt cancellations taking place after the attainment of the completion point of the HIPC initiative.
It would be recalled that this campaign is in favour of the World Bank and International monetary Fund administrative board of directors meeting which held in Washington last April 27 and 28. Due to the admission of Cameroon at the completion point, the country is going to benefit from a debt cancellation of about CFA 1400 billion frs.
This debt cancelled will be converted into development project funds that fall within the fight against poverty, with the education, health, roads, water and electricity supply sectors listed as priority areas for investment.
The government has in the past explained that the arrival of Cameroon at the completion point does not means that all problems are solved, but that it is an opportunity for a takeoff of new development strategies that could improve on the well being of all Cameroonians and bring prosperity.
On the other hand, the government has been requested to intensify the fight against corruption, so that the benefit of the debt reduction can be felt by all through development projects and the amelioration of the well being of the populations. The mission ends the tour of the provinces on August 10 in the Far North Province.
