When one talks of school anniversary, people also refer to Secondary and High schools. This was not however, the case in Bui divisions as St. Jude Primary and Nursery School, Ndzengwev, recently celebrated its ruby jubilee. Those who passed through this school have started a commendable tradition by coming together to celebrate the school's 40th anniversary.
The first class of this school started under this fig tree at the present-day Mbve motor park
Beginning the celebration last October 15, 2006 at the St. Jude's Parish Church Mbve, where it later proceeded to the Parish Church hall late in the day, a Holy Mass was said in honour of the day. In a homily presented by Rev. Fr Clifford Ndi, the Catholic Education Secretary for the Diocese of Kumbo and chief celebrant.
He thanked, the headmaster, PTA Chairlady and the Manager for the wonderful initiative to bring ex pupils of CNPS Ndzengwev together to celebrate 40 years in the life of existence
He equally thanked them for initiating such an association as the ex-Pupils Association which is rarely heard of.
Just as people normally remember and identify themselves with the colleges from which they graduated with the intention of promoting and spreading the good image of their various colleges.
He further called on all present to do same and even more for their various Primary Schools. This is because Primary education constitutes the foundation of each and everyone's success in life.
He reiterated that it is at the level of the primary school that we begin to develop a sense of direction in our lives, nursing and strengthening the potentials of success and leadership for tomorrow.
The Kumbo Diocesan Education Secretary said, an occasion like this comes to give people the opportunity to express their gratitude to God for all the teachers who have served and continue to serve at the St. Jude Catholic Nursery and Primary School Ndzengwev.
They have been the instruments through which God has been moulding and continue to mould us to become what He himself destined us to be. He called on those who passed through this school and might not be happy at the dawn of the 40th anniversary of this school, to think better because whatever treatment a teacher gave one, was for the person's good, even if it hurt.
He ended his sermon by advising all those who graduated from the institution to use the knowledge they acquired wisely as king Solomon wisely chose the gift of Wisdom instead of wealth since he knew he was going to use it for leadership. Rev. Fr. Edward Lukong the parish priest and Manager of schools for Mbve Parish was the concelebrant at the Mass.
Continuing the celebration in the Parish Hall Mr. John Wirsiy, the Divisional Officer for Ngi Sub-Division who at the same time is an ex-pupil of this school chaired the occasion.
In a speech to the participants he expressed his gratitude to have been part of the occasion.
The SDO promised to do all at his level to support the school to grow to higher heights while appealing on well wishers to join in the support for growth to this school.
St. Jude's Primary School Ndzengwev was created in 1966 when Mbve Parish was under Kumbo Cathedral Parish. The first class began under the fig tree where we have the present Mbve Park. It later moved into a stone house behind Palm Oil Enterprise at Mbve Motor Park.
From there it moved to its present site where Papa Vincent Linjoh offered a sizeable piece of land for the school to be constructed. For forty years, the school has undergone some transformations.
From the sun-dried bricks which were moulded and constructed classes, the Catholic Education Authority together with the parents of the pupils of the school later demolished them and constructed the present solid structure, which still needs a facelift.
The pioneer school manager and teacher of this school respectively were Rev. Kelfert and Pa William Kakiyii respectively, both of whom now rest in the Lord.
