A group of Nso elite based in Douala, under the umbrella of a social association known as Banin, recently went to the aid of some 45 students. The students were drawn from some technical and vocational training institutions in Nso Bui Division in the North West province. The laureates of the third edition of the scholarship scheme, received their packages in their various schools, from the delegations which passed by.
In two teams the delegations went to the Rural Artisan and home economic centre in Jakiri now SAR SM Jakiri, the Government technical college Vekovi, the Government Technical High school Kumbo, City College Kumbo, the Girls Vocational School Shisong and SAR SM in Mbiame, where they awarded 25000frs each to some 45 students who according to the conditions for eligibility are intelligent, disciplined, neat and from poor backgrounds.
At every stop, the Associations President Mr. Tani Emmanuel reiterated that Banin which is 26 years old already is an apolitical social group that was originally meant to help its members improve socially and culturally, and that as their way to fight against poverty they conceived the scholarship scheme that went into operation three years back.
Mr. Tani Emmanuel thanked various institutions and administrators for the continuous interest exhibited towards the program since its inception, and their support in the selection of the laureates.
He called on the laureates to be hard working and to use the funds for their school needs.
To the parents, who were heavily represented at each stop he appealed on them to take their responsibilities in educating their children for a better Cameroon.
The various administrations expressed gratitude to the Banin group while appealing that the amount of 25000frs for each laureate be reduced so as to involve many more students, and that that academic excellence should be the condition no matter the background of the candidates.
The chief of service for extra curricular activities at the Divisional Delegation of Secondary Education for Bui Mr. Akasi Peter represented the delegate during the exercise. He also called on teachers to be upright and sincere in the information they submit so as to help the Banin group meet their objective of helping just the right persons as required by the scheme, and called on the laureates to be hard working not to make the donors feel they may have misdirected their funds.
From the enthusiasm exhibited during the exercise it was clear that the number of laureates will increase during the next academic year.
