North West Regional Governor, His Excellency Abakar Ahamat has urged the newly appointed Treasurer Pay Master General to mete out prompt sanction of embezzlement cases under his area of jurisdiction. Mr. Abakar made the call in Bamenda while installing Moses Elroy Kan as the new Regional Treasurer paymaster General for the North West on November 14.
The Governor described the massive turn out of inhabitants of Bamenda as a sign of their growing interest in the financial affairs of the country. Mr.Abakar also applauded the contribution made by the out going treasurer pay master general, Ignatius Dinga, who he said had worked tirelessly for four years to ensure the development of the region.
The promotion of Moses Kan from divisional treasurer to regional pay master general, the governor said, is recognition of his tact in carrying out his duties. Mr. Kan is a devoted and competent civil servant, who has proven his worth, he added.
In order to be an efficient and effective development agent in the north west, governor Ahamat instructed the newly installed pay master general to wage a war against shameful acts of corruption and the embezzlement of public funds, ensure a strict surveillance of the public investment budget, put in place computer treatment of accounts and above all give transparency and good governance its deserved place in the region.
While calling on Moses Kan to ensure that embezzlement cases are promptly sanctioned, governor Abakar, charged him to safeguard, maintain, and repair public equipment placed under his care.
Speaking earlier, the Government Delegate to the Bamenda Urban Council, Abel Ndeh in his traditional welcome address, praised the efforts of the outgoing Treasurer Pay master general, Dinga Ignatius, who he said, had made reasonable contributions to development of the region. Describing the people of his municipality as people who, are uncompromising with any situations that threaten their freedom and rights, the Government Delegate pledged his municipality's support and collaboration to the newly appointed Pay Master General.
At the end of the ceremony Moses Elroy Kan declared to the press that as a state representative he will ensure that his personnel offer eight hours of work and eight hours at work. He also fervently pledged to combat corruption, embezzlement of public funds and the shameful act of percentages in services under his control.
“I don't want to hear the word deficit….and the shame of leaving the office to the prison,” he said. He also promised to ensure serenity in the treatment of files and payment. I will match words with actions and work for transparency and good governance.
Before his appointment Moses Elroy Kan was working in Bui division as the Divisional treasurer.
