Transitional periods usually constitute moments of great anxiety for different communities, institutions and countries. Fear and uncertainty generally affect performance and initiative during such periods. As a result of the fragility of its institutions, more attention in many African countries is instead directed towards who future decision makers will be and the people they will choose to help in formulating and implementing policy, than on major policy orientation and sustainability.

Sangmelima Diocese now has a new bishop in the person of Mgr Christophe Zoa. Mgr Zoa replaces Mgr Raphael Marie Ze who has retired after the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, accepted his resignation request. He had already attained 75 years and as Canon Law recommends, he has handed over the relay baton to a more energetic prelate.

The Douala Co-adjutor Archbishop, Mgr Samuel Kleda, last December 3 inaugurated two refurbished Catholic schools in Douala Archdiocese. St Kisito, Ndobgati and St Thomas Logbaba, were renovated from funds collected during the first phase of an ongoing fundraising exercise to construct and refurbish educational and health infrastructure in Douala Archdiocese.

Christians of Douala Archdiocese converged on St Monica's Parish church in their numbers on Saturday, December 6, to thank the Almighty for saving the life of the Yaoundé Archbishop, Mgr Victor Tonye Bakot. Mgr Bakot miraculously missed death in a ghastly accident along the Yaounde-Douala Highway on March 27, 2008.

Gone are those days when children used to babble excitedly in schools, each bragging about the special Christmas outfit he or she has been bought. From the look of things nowadays, there are no concrete guarantees of a return to the 'good old days', when kids hardly slept on Christmas Eve.
Today, many of them have joined their parents as they could all be seen moving around with harried expressions and worry-lines on their faces.

Our desire for fellowship often leads to an array of parties with gluttonous eating and destructive drinking.
