Hundreds of Catholic Men Organisation members from various parishes in Douala Archdiocese gathered at Our Lady of Annunciation Parish Bonamoussadi, on November 22 to dedicate 52 members into the organisation.
The Jesuits provincial assistant, Rev. Fr. Eric, presided at the solemn dedication Mass which started at 8am. CMO Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Ignatius Musi, and two other priests concelebrated the Mass. Rev. Fr. Musi thanked God for making Catholic men to become active in Church activities and not continue lagging behind as was the case before.
He also apologised on Christian Cardinal Tumi’s behalf. Cardinal Tumi had to preside at the ceremony but could not due to other commitments. The Vicar General, Mgr Paul Nyaga, was supposed to represent him, but unfortunately could not also be present due to other pressing commitments as well.
During the Mass, CMO members were told to be simple, hardworking and just. Fr. Musi explained dedicated members had attended classes for eight months to master the Church’s Doctrine and Holy Scriptures. After the course, they were tested through an examination and confirmed fit for dedication.
He called on men yet to join the group not to hesitate becoming examples of St. Joseph in their families and society. The newly dedicated were reminded that it is not going to be an easy task they will be undertaking, that is, bringing peace to different families and the world. CMO Chaplain prayed that newly dedicated and old CMO members should remain faithful to Christ.
The dedication ceremony followed immediately after the homily. CMO archdiocesan president, Chief Austin Arrey, led members to be dedicated to the Altar. CMO Chaplain Fr. Musi presented candles to the 52 members and a procession to the Altar followed. They were told to be exemplary and be the light wherever they are.
Each dedicated member was dressed in the beautiful yellow and white CMO scarf as they took the engagement vows to serve the Lord selflessly and abide by the CMO Constitution.
Chief Arrey explained that dedication is an act through which Christians enrich their spiritual life. He said impostors cannot embarrass those newly dedicated as they have mastered the Word of God and are already or expected to put it into practice. He implored baby CMO members to lean on St. Joseph who is a role model for husbands and fathers.
CMO members raised about FCFA 1.1 million for works of charity during the second part of the celebration which continued in the parish hall. The dedication ceremony fell on the Feast of Christ the King, a fortunate coincidence.
