Editorial: What a Year for the Church in Cameroon!

Many may be asking what the difference is between one year and another. The same events, good and bad, keep repeating themselves in an interminable and incontrollable manner. While it is out rightly idealistic to aspire for a problem-free world, a country’s and our ability in dealing or handling daily problems is really what makes the difference.  However we feel, the years go rolling by and with them the Church’s face keeps changing.

Bamenda III Council promises land for Catholic University of Cameroon, Bamenda

Bamenda III Council has promised land for the Catholic University of Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province which is still in its embryonic stage. The Mayor of Bamenda III Council, Prince Pius Ngwa Amando, made the promise during the council’s 2010 budgetary session which held at the Nkwen Fon’s Palace.

St. Albert’s College Bafut officially inaugurated, chapel dedicated

The 4-year-old St Albert’s Comprehensive College, Bafut, which Marist Brothers manage, was officially inaugurated on Saturday December 12, 2009. The blessing and dedication of the school chapel, the installation of the Blessed Sacrament and the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to some students, were some of the key events.

Ako Parish celebrates Silver Jubilee

On November 4 this year, Ako Parish clocked twenty five years since it was raised to a full parish. To acknowledge the countless blessings bestowed on this parish’s Christian faithful, the Bishop of Kumbo, priests, religious, Lay Faithful, civil and traditional authorities all converged on the Ako Parish Church to honour and thank God.

Mami Elizabeth Enyible - First Christian

We were the first Christians in this parish. With the hatred many had for Christianity, people came and forced me to leave my matrimonial home. Some broke my bath room and vowed not to talk to me again. They tore sheets off from my roof, carried away stones from my home and used them to build their own houses. The pioneer Parish Priest and I stood our ground and continued in our faith. The situation has evolved positively and today we have many Christians in Ako Parish. I am happy because I have kept the faith despite all obstacles.

Buea University Students’ Union outlawed

Buea University Students’ Union, UBSU, has been suspended from carrying out its activities until further notice. The decision is contained in a December 2, 2009, release which the vice chancellor, Prof. Vincent Titanji, issued. The decision follows a clash on campus between factions which UBSU president, Paul Shipuh, and the former UBSU chairman, Tanyi Mbo, are heading.
