In a December 2 dated letter
which the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea,
Mgr. Eliseo Antonio Ariotti has sent to
His Eminence Archbishop Emeritus Christian Cardinal Tumi, the Nuncio indicates
Pope Benedict XVI has made the following Episcopal appointments and transfers
in Cameroon:
Archdiocese of Bertoua
His Excellency Mgr. Joseph Atanga, presently Bishop of
Bafoussam
Batouri Diocese
Father Faustin Ambassa Ndjodo of Immaculate Heart of
Mary Congregation, presently Provincial Superior of the same congregation.
Obala Diocese
Father Sostène Léopold Bayémi Matjei of the Eséka
Diocesan Clergy, presently a Philosophy lecturer at the Catholic University of
Central Africa attached to the Yaounde Apostolic Nunciature.
The Letter indicates these appointments have been
published in the Holy See’s official newspaper and that the clergy and the lay
faithful of the dioceses concerned have been informed of the above-indicated
appointments.
Meanwhile, the Head of State, Paul Biya received Mgr.
Eliseo Antonio Ariotti at the Presidency yesterday. Mgr. Ariotti came to notify
the head of State of the end of his diplomatic mission in Cameroon. The Holy
Father has transferred Mgr. Ariotti to Paraguay, South America, in the same
capacity. He is expected to leave Cameroon today.
