of Bamenda Archdiocese are in shock after they learnt of the death of
Archbishop Emeritus of Bamenda Mgr. Paul Verdzekov on Tuesday, January 26,
2010 at Ntasen, Bamenda. Fr. Paul died in his study while working at the Catholic Health Centre in Ntasen where he took up residence since he retired in 2005.

The page has been turned on the recent double-faceted historic event that marked the life of the church that is in Cameroon- the solemn conclusion of Christian Cardinal Tumi’s pastoral governance of Douala Archdiocese and the official presentation of Mgr. Samuel Kléda as the new Archbishop of Douala. The event called for a lot of preparation, meticulous planning and celebration.

From the 2nd to the 8th of January, 2010, the 33rd Bishops of Cameroon Annual Seminar held in Bamenda under the theme, “Priestly Life and Priestly Formation”. The seminar began with a Solemn Holy Mass which the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon President, Mgr. Victor Tonye Bakot, celebrated in St. Joseph Metropolitan Cathedral, Mankon.

The transfer of the pastoral governance in Douala Archdiocese from Christian Cardinal Tumi to Mgr. Samuel Kléda has been successfully concluded. It was to personally witness this historic event that Christians, priests and religious, civil and administrative officials, turned out in their numbers at the esplanade of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral on January 9.

His Grace Mgr. Samuel Kléda was born in 1959 in Golompwy in the Doukoula District of Mayo-Danay Division in the Far North Region. After his primary education in his native village, he pursued secondary education in College Mazénod in Ngaoundéré.
