Nkum CPDM militants and some elite have expressed an urgent need for a special constituency to be created for Nkum/Mbiame in Bui Division.
Opposition militants see the demand as a tool for the ruling party to grab a parliamentary seat and take over the SDF-run Nkum Council. They also used the occasion to point out the area’s poor road network. A July 21 national party Chairman signed decree, created new sections across Cameroon.
Speaking on the occasion Nkum CPDM resource person, Adrianne Wirndzem Yenawuni described the newly created Bui I-B section as a development weapon and a lobby force expected to foster the sub division’s development. She said the delay in creating it retarded the area's development tremendously.
Although this is seen as an achievement, she exhorted ruling party militants to face upcoming challenges like the 2011 presidential polls and up coming legislative and council elections. “Be aware each success in life comes along with challenges" she cautioned. She announced a file asking a special constituency be created in Nkum had been prepared and will be forwarded to competent authority.
On Nkum elite’s behalf, North West Youth Affairs’ delegate Julius Ngalim Takwa said the section's creation is a political milestone to boost the ruling party’s political and other legalised political parties activities in Nkum. He urged the newly created section leaders to be transparent, stating misunderstandings among group members arise from lack of transparency, tolerance and failure to listen to those leading. He praised the government for empowering councils to develop their areas through on -going decentralisation.
The provisional section president, William Njodzeka Ngoran, lauded the government for some recently created schools in Nkum and for raising Government Secondary School Nseh to a high school.
Celebrations took place under Nkum Divisional Officer, Jean Marie Noundie’s patronage. He told Nkum inhabitants to be patient with the government in fulfilling their demands as the administrative machinery grinds slowly but surely.
Nkum Sub division has a population of over 112.000 inhabitants. North West MINEPAT Delegate Abel Free Kighe was among the Nkum elite who attended the event.
