NW Fons canvas funds for multi-purpose cultural centre

Constructing a Multi purpose cultural centre has been at the centre of the activities of the Northwest Fons’ Union NOWEFU from the creation of the association. The need to realise this project has been burning, reason for the fund raising exercise towards its realisation that came up recently at the Bamenda Congress Hall with Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni as chief launcher.

Six youths; Abiamba Francis Nathan, Dibangtou Collins and Kwekeu Logmo Mac Wilfreid (for Painting) and Bidzi Effa Narcisse, Mbarga Dominique and Kede Eloundou Guy (for Sculpture) are the winners of the 20th edition of the Plastic Arts Competition run by the Centre des Promotion Sociale de Mbalmayo, CPS, recently.

Queen Mother’s burial evokes rare manifestations

It is not everyday that the Queen Mother of Nso dies, and so, the ceremonies that accompanied the burial of the Queen Mother recently, were quite a revelation to the entire population of Nso, for not many people have ever witnessed such an event, the last of its kind being over a century ago. The week-long traditional mourning of eight days was steeped in formerly unknown rituals for the younger generation.

Nso Youth Association launched in Bamenda

Some 300 Nso youths gathered recently in Bamenda to launch their youth association, “Wah-bin Nso,” During the launching, Mr Julius Nsotaka said that this was the first of its kind for Nso youths to conceive and execute such an idea.

Project launched to conserve Bamum scripts

Cameroon has so much to offer to the world in terms of hidden achievements such as its own inventions of original systems of writing. Unfortunately, some of these are not only getting extinct, but have never been identified and brought to the lime. The Bagam Script, which was once used for farming calendars, record-keeping and correspondence is a good example. The only known example of this alphabet is now said to exist only in European archival holdings.
