What is behind a labour medal?

By Ireneaus Chongwain Chia

Sample of medals usually awarded (1)
A labour medal is an award, in medal form, that is given to a worker who has put in a certain number of years in a public, private or confessional enterprise or institution. Although in many cases, the award of a labour medal is erroneously seen only as something prestigious or in a worse case cosmetic, other benefits that actually accrue from receiving a medal are motivational, psychological and the recognition of loyalty and competence.

Dzemo Romuald, A New Poetic Voice From Africa:A Reading of His Words Lost in the Wind

Bookreviewcover By  Charles Ngo  Nsoseka
The struggle for African freedom has negotiated a crucial bend with the publication this September 2008 by Pendium Publishing House, U.S.A of Dzemo Romuald's significant poetry collection Words Lost In The Wind. The collection which contains over 80 poems gives us a useful insight into the poetic landscape which has goaded, guided and shaped the life and mind of this young Cameroonian poet whom it would be interesting to watch.

Cameroonians advised to hearken to visionary poetry

By Mirabel Azangeh Tandafor Fru
Mathew_takwi_2
"Cameroonians apparently give very little or no attention to visionary poetry," said John Teneng, one of the chairpersons of the organizing committee, at the launching ceremony of Mathew Takwi's poetic newborn, 'Fire on the Mountain'. Alluding to Mathew Takwi's prophetic cautionary debut - 'People be not fooled' (2004), he noted that Cameroonians have continued to "wallow" and "stagger" in what he described as 'follies and vices'.

Cardinal Tumi pulls mammoth crowd at Yaounde book-launch

By Ireneaus Chia Chongwain
Bkreview
It is understood when sports in general and football in particular, draw huge crowds in  Cameroon, but when the launching of a book releases a human avalanche to the event, it can only be put down as the exception to every rule. That was the case on Tuesday, April 17, when a healthy portion of the Yaounde population trooped to the Djeuga Palace Hotel to witness the launching of Cardinal Tumi's latest publication, "The political Regimes of Ahmadou Ahidjo and Paul Biya, and Christian Tumi, Priest."

Book Review: “From College of Teachers to College of Cardinals”

Reviewed by Ireneaus Chia Chongwain Bookreview

The 121-page biography, written by Edouard OUM, a former Seminarian and a member of the Pan Makak Parish Council, recounts the almost providential rise of His Eminence Christian Cardinal W. Tumi, which he presents in an easy-to- follow style; an interview. The novel retraces the life of this distinguished personality in a free flow of sequential events that stretch way back from his infancy in his native BUI Division, through his near suicidal trip to Nigeria in quest first, for parental affection and then education, to his ordination as priest, his appointment as rector, bishop, and archbishop and cardinal.

Poverty

Poem by Sylvanus S. Binla

As if it was a joke,
They were there homeless,
Jobless, sick and without food,
In a world of abundance.
And they said they were poor.

Book Review: Out of the Shadows

Reviewed by Emmanuel Sanosi

Lukong_1 Lukong Ngaliim, alias Shindzev, cuts a comic figure and forcefully reminds one of a mad tailor somewhere behind the scenes of his eerie personality. He isn’t much to look at, except that he’s big; big nose, big teeth, big beard, big ego. Indeed, a giant in love with life and the good things (the bigger the better), who is unwilling to exert himself except when the result is wine and women. In appearance alone, he certainly does not give the Nso image, much credit.
