Milano Kumbo Sports Academy officials have been called upon to promote female football in Bui Division. The special envoy of Cameroon’s Minister for Sports and Physical Education, Valentine Mofor, made the call in Kumbo on August 22 at the close of the third edition of Milano Kumbo-organised Summer Vacation Sports Competition.

The Mayor of Kumbo, Donatus Njong, says he will discuss with stakeholders ways to step up efforts to enable Kumbo have a team in the prestigious Division One Football Championship in Cameroon. Mayor Donatus Njong Fonyuy made his position public in Kumbo during the official closing ceremony of the third edition of the Kumbo Traders-Mayors' Sports Competition on November 23.

State Universities authorities recently called on athletes to exercise fair play and honesty as during the just-ended university games holding in the University of Buea. They were speaking during the opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the University Games. Addressing more than 900 athletes and 5000 spectators, the Vice Chancellor of Buea, Professor Cornelius Lambi, said that University Games is an opportunity for the public to see students from various universities flex their legs after long hours at the Amphitheatre where.

Athletes of this year's mountain Race of Hope have said that the government pays little or no attention to their welfare. They made this declaration after the mountain Race that held in Buea last February 26, 2006 in the presence of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Philippe Mbarga Mboa and Minister of Youths Adoum Garoua. According to these athletes, government pays more attention to football than athletics as if athletics does not also contribute money to this country. "We athletes work hard to make this country proud, yet we are not recognised, the government does not support us. But they do for footballers," Eric Batcham, second place winner of this year's race complained.

The president of the South West Provincial Athletics Federation, Mr Biaka, has said that there are some innovations in the 2006 mountain Race of Hope. He was speaking recently at the first preparatory meeting towards the race taking place on February 26, 2006, that held at the conference hall of the Local Government Training Centre, CEFAM last January 18. This year's race, he said, will include a race for youths of both sexes aged 15 to 19, which will take place from the Molyko stadium to Hut I, and a walking race for non athletes from the Molyko stadium to the old BICEC junction and back for people of all ages, with the aim of keeping the body fit for the daily activities.
