Disorganisation affects Mount Cameroon Race of Hope 2009

Many people have described the 15th edition of Mount Cameroon Race of Hope as the worst in the race’s history despite the colossal FCFA 120 million disbursed to organise the race.This year’s budget witnessed a FCFA 20 million drop compared to last year’s.  The race got off to an acrimonious start when the National Athletics Federation president, Jacques Sebastian Mbous, announced, just two weeks to the race, that the traditional race distance had been reduced to meet international standards.

Female Football may soon receive special attention in Bui

Milano Kumbo Sports Academy officials have been called upon to promote female football in Bui Division. The special envoy of Cameroon’s Minister for Sports and Physical Education, Valentine Mofor, made the call in Kumbo on August 22 at the close of the third edition of Milano Kumbo-organised Summer Vacation Sports Competition.

Mayor Donatus Njong promises to step up efforts for a division one team in Kumbo

The Mayor of Kumbo, Donatus Njong, says he will discuss with stakeholders ways to step up efforts to enable Kumbo have a team in the prestigious Division One Football Championship in Cameroon. Mayor Donatus Njong Fonyuy made his position public in Kumbo during the official closing ceremony of the third edition of the Kumbo Traders-Mayors' Sports Competition on November 23.

Milano Kumbo summer vacation sports jamboree wraps up

The curtains were pulled over the Milano Academy initiated summer vacation sports activities on August 23 at the Tobin Municipal Stadium. The North West Provincial Chief of Service for Sports, Lawrence Achu, who represented Cameroon's Minister for Sports and Physical Education on the occasion, presided at the ceremony.

Marcus Mokake: Young Lion with a mighty roar

The National Elite Soccer Championship has been a gateway for potential professional footballers. One of such is Marcus Mokake, three times best player of the year in the soccer championship. After winning several titles in Cameron including gold medals with the Intermediate Lions, the 25 year old set for greener pasture in a professional league with Sedan in France. For three years the name Marcus Makake is not often heard as it was during his championshipdays. L’Effort caught up with him at his residence. Excerpts:

Germany heats up for World Cup 2006

Authorities recommend Fair Play and Honesty in University Games

State Universities authorities recently called on athletes to exercise fair play and honesty as during the just-ended university games holding in the University of Buea. They were speaking during the opening ceremony of the 9th edition of the University Games. Addressing more than 900 athletes and 5000 spectators, the Vice Chancellor of Buea, Professor Cornelius Lambi, said that University Games is an opportunity for the public to see students from various universities flex their legs after long hours at the Amphitheatre where.

2006 Mountain Race: Participants decry government’s neglect of them

Athletes of this year's mountain Race of Hope have said that the government pays little or no attention to their welfare. They made this declaration after the mountain Race that held in Buea last February 26, 2006 in the presence of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Philippe Mbarga Mboa and Minister of Youths Adoum Garoua. According to these athletes, government pays more attention to football than athletics as if athletics does not also contribute money to this country. "We athletes work hard to make this country proud, yet we are not recognised, the government does not support us. But they do for footballers," Eric Batcham, second place winner of this year's race complained.
